Built around two primary screen prompts ("Where To?" and "View Map"), users can quickly search out and specify a destination within their available region. Two different map versions are available - one for US-only travel, and another with full North American map information. Once en route, users can choose to view any of over 6 million POIs (points of interest) along the way, filtering results based on gas, food or various entertainment needs. Speed limit is constantly displayed on the bottom corner of the screen, helping to reinforce road safety and minimize back-and-forth monitoring of the Nuvi and vehicle speedometer. Destination arrival info can be displayed in either distance or time-based denominations, offering a constantly-updating readout to keep passengers motivated. When approaching a major metropolitan area, the unit will automatically enter "Lane Assist" mode in effort to minimize confusion when multiple exits and off-ramps are involved. Working in combination with the "Junction View" feature, drivers are provided with a 3D replication of their surroundings with arrowed instructions to ensure that the right path is taken. The Nuvi 40 also includes a suction cup mount and power cable for fast, reliable setup.
